According to a report from BET.com, Jamie Foxx is going after what he wants. During an interview at TIFF this past weekend alongside Michael B. Jordan, the Ray alum stated that he was more than willing to score the lead role in 2012’s Django Unchained.
Moreover, Mr. Foxx claims he was so determined to portray Django in Quentin Tarantino’s movie that he went so far as to sabotage other actors’ chances. Reportedly, Jamie found out that Idris Elba was one of the men considered for the same role, so he took time out of his day to urge the British actor to say no.
Foxx said to reporters from the outlet that his management team told him he was among several actors in consideration for the role as Django, so he realized something had to be done quickly to secure it and then star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.
Reportedly, Foxx took it upon himself to convince Idris that he was far too attractive of a man to take on the role as Django Unchained. Interestingly, this came shortly after Will Smith turned it down. Foxx says he told Will Smith that if he took on the role as Django, he wouldn’t be able to walk around on the planet ever again.
In terms of what he said to Mr. Elba, Foxx says he told the actor that he was too “beautiful” to be riding on the horse. Apparently, Quentin chose to cut Idris from the role on account of the fact he was a British actor and not an American one.
Tarantino said to reporters from The Sun in 2013 that his story was an American one, and not British. “I think a problem with a lot of movies that deal with the issue is they cast British actors to play Southerners,” the director stated.

Tarantino insinuated their idea of what it means to be a Southerner is typically out of touch. It may have been a good move because Django Unchained was one of the best movies of 2012, despite Leonardo DiCaprio not getting the Academy Award that year.
